Chilly morning, but the snow is giving in, and the roads are clearing again. Let's hope winter ends soon. Let's just hope there isn't another blizzard again.
Hunting should be easier now, prey should be weak and there isn't any wayward wind to blow the cover of the hunters. So they leave home, sure of themselves, tasting the veal beforetime.

In their defense, they DID get ready. There was the spear, the hunting knife, the bags for the spoils. Enyo got her mount, her harness, and some biscuits. They ate just enough to have energy but not too much as to slow them down. The problem was that all the gear up was habit, but the mindset was too cocky this time. They had new ideas, they felt unbeatable, they thought of no respect toward the quarry: just dumb, dead walking food. Should have known better. At any point could any other animal think of them the same way, and they weren't willing to be easy food for any bear. The deer value their life as any other. They were for a life lesson.
As the end of winter was nigh, and it had been a long one, finding the herds proved a difficult task. Until they did find a track.
Oh! Enyo and Alan were thrilled! it appeared to be a large elk, by the hoof print and the low branches which he had tripped the snow from. It was also evident that he had a short or no right antler, given the pattern in the branches and hoof prints. Cocky, I tell you, they unloaded all the useful stuff they had packed. Alan wanted to be swift and light, wanted Enyo to make the kill by herself as they had been training to do. Enyo was wagging her tail and pretty excited, started giving small jumps with her front paws as Alan took her collar, she would need all the freedom for her mouth to open. He was also happy to see her in this state, she was normally grumpy. The sound ringed into their ears too late (emotions can blind your senses, you should use them with care!), froze them for a split second and, unfrozen, Alan let go of the harness he had in one hand still and grabbed Enyo's neck fur with the hand he had still up. She was running as soon as she felt his tug, and in her rush, she steered enough to get him on her back. The hooves were noisy and close behind them, accompanied by a fierce bugling. It sounded scary and huge! and OHGODIAMNOTREADYFORTHIS!
